The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the cancellation of the 2020 men’s hockey postseason, but not before the Nittany Lions finished atop the Big Ten standings to claim their first regular-season conference crown. Penn State, which joined the conference in 2012, set a program record with 12 Big Ten wins and earned at least a split in all but two of its weekend series in conference play. The Lions benefited from a balanced scoring attack, with six players recording 10 goals or more, and were more than twice as effective as their opponents on power plays.
