A mature, approximately 80-year-old elm tree near University House (part of the Hintz Family Alumni Center) that was infected with fatal elm yellows disease was removed in August by the Office of Physical Plant in order to prevent further spread of the disease.

University Park has approximately 120 remaining elm trees, which continue to receive annual inspections and treatments such as injections and spraying from OPP arborists in efforts to preserve and protect them.
