Flour & Stone, which opened in September in Pine Grove Mills, was an unexpected solution to a tricky problem for owner Liz Grove.

Grove ’84 A&A had been running Pine Grove Hall in the former Old Oak Tavern building since 2020, but the live music venue and restaurant about 5 miles west of University Park was able to provide only about a dozen parking spaces, which was hurting business. In 2022, Grove purchased the home across the street simply for the additional parking the property would provide, but shortly after, she decided to renovate the house—which dated back to 1860—and turn it into a restaurant that would serve upscale fare that complements Pine Grove Hall’s redesigned menu, which now focuses on salads, sandwiches, and pizza.

Flour & Stone, named for two of the town’s three namesake mills and open Thursday to Sunday, has a Mediterranean-inspired menu that features numerous gluten-free and dairy-free entrees and appetizers, including marinated olives, chickpea and split pea croquettes, and porchetta with stone-ground polenta. Housemade cocktails and wine are also available, and patrons can get breakfast and lunch sandwiches and espresso coffees via a streetside window.

There are now 70 total parking spots on the two sites, which offer two distinct dining experiences. “Flour & Stone aims to be a perfect complement to Pine Grove Hall by offering a more intimate and refined atmosphere while maintaining a warm and welcoming vibe,” Grove says.
