Penn State Abington, which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, continues to update resources and physical space for students. The Chaiken Center for Student Success, established in June as part of a landmark gift from benefactors Gene ’62 Bus and Roz Chaiken, provides students with subject-specific tutoring, writing consultations, and access to a 24/7 online writing lab. The campus’s first new academic building in more than 50 years was approved by the board of trustees in July. The $68 million, three-story building, expected to be completed by spring 2026, will include 17 classrooms, four labs, art studio space, faculty offices, and student support spaces.
Wide-Ranging Support
Abington’s Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP), which launched in the fall thanks in part to a grant from Independence Blue Cross, provides support to students in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, and offers programming to students in recovery from chronic mental illness, survivors of trauma, and those with other disabilities and disorders. The program operates within the portfolio of Abington’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). Services include group sessions, peer counseling, and alumni networking opportunities.
