Club Hopping: Poultry Science Club
Penn State Poultry Science Club at White House

Current Membership:  15

Mission:  To promote the study of avian species and learn about the poultry industry.

The Poultry Science Club lost half its membership to graduation, but president Katie Schafer says it won’t have a hard time recruiting replacements, as students look to make connections within a thriving industry. “People graduating from the poultry and avian sciences minor usually have four to six job offers,” says Schafer, a senior majoring in animal science. For its fall turkey harvest, members spend three days processing and selling 150 to 400 turkeys. They also compete in poultry judging competitions and meet regularly to share a meal, prepare for upcoming events, and hear from industry pros: “We’re more of a family than a club.”
