MISSION: Growing student understanding of the art of sailing through teaching and practice. Shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic, the club relaunched in 2021 with a renewed emphasis on recruiting for its seven-member competitive team, which qualified for the Luce Regatta—a major race in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association—for the first time last fall. “We found really good people to build around. We have a lot of young talent,” says president Chandler DeBarros. The club, which is funded primarily by the Erie Yacht Club Foundation, competes in regattas, but less experienced members are encouraged to join to learn more about sailing.
