MISSION: To facilitate a learning experience for students by developing autonomous vehicles, reengineering electric vehicles, and improving vehicle architecture.

The Advanced Vehicle Team (AVT) is building a Level 4 autonomous vehicle—one that can take the road without driver intervention—by 2025 as part of the AutoDrive Challenge II, a national competition against teams from nine other universities. After attaching motion-detection sensors to a cart for the first leg of the challenge, AVT placed in the top three in seven categories during a competition in Ann Arbor, Mich., in June. Eventually, the group will apply those sensors to a Chevy Bolt donated by General Motors. AVT won $16,000 last year, its first time in the competition.
