Katie Balay wanted to make the most of her college years, and she had a close example of how to do it. In April, Balay ’24 Lib finished her senior year serving as president of Blue & White Society, having followed in the footsteps of her brother Joe ’23 Lib, BWS president in 2022. “I saw the community that [Blue & White Society] gave him and how much he was able to get involved at Penn State,” says Katie, who joined the Alumni Association’s student chapter as a freshman. She says her involvement and leadership in the student-run organization, which included stints as its director of philanthropy, vice president of development, and a THON dancer, “fostered an immense amount of growth, personally and professionally.” She was set to graduate in early May with a degree in psychology and goals to earn a Ph.D.—and stay involved in the Alumni Association as an alum.
