Making Up For Lost Time

Alumni Association Chapters used the summer of 2021 to reconnect—and celebrate—in person.

Alumni on beach

As vaccination rates and temperatures rose in the spring and early summer, Alumni Association chapter members across the country did something they hadn’t been able to do in more than a year: make plans to meet up anywhere other than on Zoom.

The summer of 2021 was a chance for long-overdue in-person gatherings, and Penn Staters made the most of the opportunity. Chapter social media feeds were a welcome parade of blue-and-white get-togethers, with reunions happening at beaches, ballparks, happy hours, and hiking trails. Among the highlights that caught our attention, clockwise from top right: Nittany Lion football legends Jason Cabinda ’18 Lib and Sam Ficken ’15 Bus joined New York City Chapter members for their annual golf tournament and scholarship fundraiser; capital alums suited up for the Washington, D.C., Chapter softball team; Baltimore Chapter members signed up for a local kickball league; alums from the Rochester (N.Y.) Chapter gathered for a sunny afternoon on Lake Ontario; D.C. Chapter members took in the natural beauty while hiking Maryland’s Great Falls; and Southern California alums met up in Santa Monica for the Los Angeles Chapter’s beach day.
