I found these medals while cleaning out a drawer. Back in 1969-70, I won them for competing in intramural horseshoes. The horseshoe courts were located in East Halls, between Brumbaugh Hall and Park Avenue, possibly in the location that is now Earle Hall. I lived in 213 Brumbaugh and graduated long before Earle Hall was built.
There were IM divisions for dorms, fraternities, and independents. The horseshoes competition was for two-person teams, and my teammate was Tom Hidock ’70 Bus. He and I have been friends since kindergarten, and were roommates at Penn State. We’re still friends today.
I had always enjoyed horseshoes as a hobby. I was quite proud to also have my picture displayed in Rec Hall as an intramural champion. Do they still do anything like this? If not, it may be something to consider. Maybe someone could build an article for the Penn Stater based on this memory.
Before I came to University Park, I played on and was captain of the Fayette campus basketball team in 1967-68, and I’m a member of the Varsity “S” Club. Both of our sons, Seth Takoch ’03 Eng and Joel Takoch ’04 IST, have since graduated from Penn State.
