The men’s basketball team was mired in a six-game losing streak and had recently lost its best player, forward Geary Claxton ’08 H&HD, to injury when No. 7 Michigan State came to town on Groundhog Day in 2008. The Nittany Lions responded by pulling off a stunning 85-76 victory in the Bryce Jordan Center. Stanley Pringle ’09 Lib scored 19 points and Talor Battle ’11 H&HD added 17 as Penn State picked up its first home win over a ranked opponent in seven years. The Nittany Lions enjoyed a 34-14 advantage in made free throws and scored their final 20 points at the line. “This feels like a million dollars,” Battle told reporters after the game. “It’s one of those things that you can talk about forever.”
