BIG TEN'S BEST: Penn State defeated No. 2 Nebraska 25-21, 14-25, 25-22, 25-23 in the Nov. 29 regular-season finale to clinch a share of its 18th Big Ten title, its first since 2017, and first for head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley ’02 Com, who announced in October she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
HOME COOKING: The Nittany Lions played, and won, their first four matches of the NCAA Tournament in the friendly confines of Rec Hall, including a 25-15, 16-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-7 defeat of sixth-ranked Creighton in the regional final.
ONE FOR THE BOOKS: Before a record crowd of more than 21,800 in Louisville’s KFC Yum! Center, the Nittany Lions defeated the Cardinals 25-23, 32-34, 25-20, 25-17 to win the national title. Schumacher-Cawley, a standout on Penn State’s first national title team in 1999, became the first woman to coach a Division I team to a national volleyball crown.
