Nittany Lions in Paris

More than two dozen Penn Staters competed with the best in the world at the Paris 2024 Olympics and came home with more than a dozen medals.

Penn Staters put on a show at the Paris 2024 Olympics, collecting 13 medals across eight sports. Sam Coffey ’20 Com and Alyssa Naeher ’10 H&HD helped the U.S. women's soccer team to its first gold medal since 2012. Haleigh Washington ’17 Lib and Micha Hancock ’14 Lib and the U.S. women's volleyball team claimed silver. Joe Kovacs ’11 EMS earned a third Olympic silver medal in men's shot put, Kayla Canett and the U.S. women's rugby team earned its first Olympic medal, a bronze, and men's pommel horse specialist Stephen Nedoroscik ’20 Eng captured the world's attention and a pair of bronze medals to boot.

The Paralympic Games got underway in Paris on Aug. 28. Shawn Morelli ’98 Behrend finished 13th in the women's C4 500-meter para cycling track qualifier, seventh in her heat in the 3,000-meter women's pursuit trials, sixth in the C4 women's road time trial, and 14th in the C4-5 road race. Para-cyclist Brandon Lyons ’12 Berks finished 10th in his H3 road time trial and seventh in the H3 race.
