Mission: Helping to advance women in the sports media industry and provide networking and support.

The Association for Women in Sports Media (AWSM) has chapters in universities across the country, but Penn State’s is the largest. The group hosts female speakers in the industry—about half of whom are alumni, says vice president Emily Treacy—every other week, and it holds regular workshops for its members that provide tips on résumés or finding internships. The access to alumni journalists is a plus for members, but so is the advice and support they receive from one another. “Within the first month of joining the club, I had a personal network here, which was so great,” Treacy says.
