1960s

Robert Horen ’65 Eng was elected to the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame. A leader in the U.S. ice dance program, partnering with athletes, coaches, and officials to elevate U.S. ice dance internationally, Horen has been a U.S. figure skating judge and referee for singles, pairs, and ice dance for more than 40 years. He served as the U.S. team leader for many international competitions and was the U.S. team leader for the 2000 ISU World Championships in Nice, France. He lives in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

John C. Powell ’65 Com (ΣΧ) received the Bellisario College of Communications’ 2024 Alumni Achievement Award. Powell was the founding director of the Sports Business Program at the Smeal College of Business. Before that, he was an associate athletic director for marketing and development at Penn State and a vice president for AT&T Consumer Services. He recently retired and lives with his wife, Lynda, in Centre Hall, Pa.

 

1970s

Anthony R. Kerlavage ’76 Sci retired after working for 13 years at the National Cancer Institute, where he served as director of biomedical informatics and information technology. After earning a Ph.D. in chemistry and a postdoctoral fellowship, he worked in the fields of biochemistry, genomics, and informatics for nearly 40 years at the NIH Neurology Institute, The Institute for Genomic Research, Celera Genomics, and Applied Biosystems. He and his wife, Barbara L. Harner ’76 H&HD, live in Montgomery Village, Md. 

Glenn A. Mathues ’77 Eng retired after a 47-year career in the nuclear engineering industry as a senior engineer for an engineering consulting firm. He lives in Westminster, Md.

Fred Vuich ’77 Lib received the PGA of America’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Photojournalism. He lives in Mars, Pa.

Dennis A. Whitaker ’79 H&HD, ’88 JD Dickinson presented a session on judicial deference to agencies at the federal and state levels at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s annual legislative update. Whitaker, of counsel at HMS Legal LLP, is an adjunct professor of law at Widener Commonwealth Law School. He lives in Harrisburg, Pa. 

 

1980s

Mike Moffa ’82 Sci has retired from PNC Financial Services, where he most recently served as vice president of cybersecurity. He lives in Monroeville, Pa.

Brian Connors ’88 H&HD retired after 36 years with the Department of Defense, most recently serving as fleet readiness director for naval support activity in Panama City, Fla., where he lives with his wife, Tracy.

 

1990s

Jeffrey Pierre Ballou ’90 Com (THON) married Rasheedah Iman Thomas on Nov. 15, 2024, at their home church, Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, D.C. Ballou, who was born and raised in Pittsburgh, works as a producer for ABC News in its Washington, D.C., bureau. They live in Washington, D.C.

James Rebarchak ’90 Sci retired in January as southeast regional air quality manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) after 35 years with the agency. He was featured in the Philadelphia Inquirer for his efforts in tracking down illegal open burning and finding unpermitted commercial and industrial facilities and bringing them into compliance. He has also been featured in Audubon magazine for helping citizens concerned about environmental justice–related air pollution. He lives in Phoenixville, Pa.

Furman has also written Jewfish, Goldens Are Here, and Bitten: My Unexpected Love Affair With Florida. 

 

Deanna Rose Segrave-Daly ’92 Bus, ’93 H&HD (ΠΒΦ) wrote her fourth cookbook, The Smart Mediterranean Diet Cookbook, which includes over 100 recipes, strategies, and cognitive health tips for shopping, prepping, and cooking at home. She lives in Havertown, Pa. Her spouse: Jim Segrave-Daly ’89 Lib; Parents: Joanne DiRocco Rose ’68 Lib and Ronald Rose ’68 Agr.

Edward S. Synoski ’92 H&HD, ’94 MPA Lib retired from the state of Delaware after 30 years of service. He lives with his wife, Faith, in Dover, Del.

Phil Priolo ’94 Bus is vice president of risk and operations at Sol Systems, a national renewable energy company working on projects that impact both local and national communities. He lives in Newtown Square, Pa.  

Elizabeth S. Boese ’95 Eng appeared in The Price Is Right’s 10,000th episode. She lives in Boulder, Colo.

Marianne Hazel ’95 Edu serves as director of development for Discovery Space of Central Pennsylvania.  She served as president of the Graduate School Alumni Society board of directors at Penn State,  Alumni Council, and the College of Education’s Alumni Society board of directors.  For the past 18 years, she has owned and operated Simplicity: A Bed and Breakfast, built in 1870 for Rebecca Valentine Pugh, widow of Evan Pugh, the first president of Penn State. She lives in Bellefonte, Pa.

Tom Bux ’98 Lib, ’14 MEd Hbg (Blue Band) joined Strategic Consulting Partners (SCP) in Mechanicsburg, Pa., as a senior consultant. SCP provides management consulting and training solutions globally for various governments and businesses. His responsibilities include curriculum development, design, and training. He lives in Barnesville, Pa.

Tony Scott ’98 Com is serving his third term in the Connecticut state legislature. He represents the towns of Monroe, Easton, and Trumbull in the 112th district. He resides in Monroe, Conn.

 

2000s

Claudia Knudsen Braymer ’02 Agr has been named executive director of Protect the Adirondacks, a nonprofit environmental advocacy organization. She and her husband, Ryan Braymer ’01 Eng, live in Glens Falls, N.Y.

Kevin M. O’Malley ’03 A&A was promoted to co-practice group leader of finance, restructuring, and bankruptcy at law firm Blank Rome LLP. His practice focuses on financial services and commercial lending for industries including manufacturing, health care, agriculture, and technology. He lives in Lebanon, N.J.

Christina Green ’06 Bus was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of management in the Richard J. Bolte School of Business at Mount St. Mary’s University. She lives in Waynesboro, Pa.

Ellen Duffield ’07 MBA Bus, who’s worked in health care since graduating from college, has been at the helm of Highmark Wholecare, a managed health care organization for Medicare and Medicaid populations, since 2021. Read the full profile.

Brandon M. Rosati ’07 Eng is director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office’s design patent technology center. He has worked for the office since graduation. He lives in Potomac, Md. 

 

2010s

Daniel S. LePera ’11 Com has been named a partner at law firm Unruh Turner Burke & Frees. He lives in Chester Springs, Pa.

Matthew Cambó ’12 Lib joined Aronson Mayefsky & Sloan in the firm’s Miami office. He previously worked as an associate at a Florida matrimonial law firm. He lives in Miami.

Caleb Krauter ’16 Sci, ’18 MA Bus has been promoted to water and wastewater group manager in the Harrisburg office of Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc. (HRG). He is responsible for managing staffing, workloads, and resource allocation for Harrisburg’s water and wastewater projects. He joined HRG as an intern in 2016 and is a 2024 graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area, which teaches people to serve the community through hands-on experience with local nonprofit organizations.  He is a member of both the Central Pennsylvania Water Quality Association’s board of directors and the Penn State Harrisburg Civil Engineering Advisory Board. He lives in Manheim, Pa.

Maggie Sarver ’18 Sci was appointed vice president for Tucor, an irrigation and water management technologies company. She has been with the company for six years and has worked in various capacities, including sales and marketing. She lives in Mars, Pa.

Kelley J. Gaffney ’19 Lib married Jensen Re ’17 Lib in September 2024. The couple met during their time at Penn State and live in Mechanicsburg, Pa.

Erin Dooley ’20 Lib and her fiancé got married during the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve after winning a sweepstakes. She lives in Washington, D.C.

Bailey M. Senerchia ’20 Com (ΔΓ) and Jared Senerchia ’19 Eng welcomed their second daughter, Matilda, on Dec. 3, 2024. They live in Leander, Texas.

Rimaz A. Mustfa ’21 Lib passed the Pennsylvania Bar and has joined Knox McLaughlin Gornall & Sennett P.C. (Knox Law) as a full-time labor and employment attorney. Mustfa focuses her practice on labor and employment law for private and public entities, including nonprofits. She lives in Erie, Pa.
