1960s

Cynthia A. Baldwin ’66, ’74 MA Lib (ΔΣΘ), former president of the Penn State Alumni Association and former chair of the Penn State Board of Trustees, received the William Hernandez Lifetime Achievement in Governance Award from the Three Rivers Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors. Baldwin, a former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice and the first African American woman elected to the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, is the first woman to win the award. She lives in White Oak, Pa.

 

1970s

Don Brandt ’74 Eng (ΑΚΛ) received the distinguished 50-Year Member Award from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, an international society of heating, refrigerating, and air-conditioning professionals from 132 countries, at the organization’s 2025 annual conference in Phoenix. He lives in Phoenix.

Jack Gates ’75 Sci wrote Spring Wildflowers of Eastern Woodlands, Photos, Facts, and Folklore, illustrating 95 different wildflower species. He spent 36 springs hiking the woods in search of spring flowers blooming, sharing facts, folklore, and one-time medical uses for each species.  Gates and his wife, Donna, live in Roanoke Rapids, N.C.

Mary Lou Belli ’78 A&A wrote Directors Tell the Story, which was recently released in its third edition. The Emmy- nominated Belli has taught master classes in directing for television at Sony Studios in Los Angeles and at the Tyler Perry Dream Collective Workshop in Atlanta and will return to CBS to direct a second season of the comedy show Elsbeth. She lives in Los Angeles. 

Dennis Whitaker ’79 H&HD, ’88 JD Law was appointed pro bono counsel by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to represent an indigent appellant before the court. The appointment is part of a court program that seeks to provide legal representation to indigent litigants from attorneys who can provide the court with the particularly high-quality appellate advocacy necessary for a court that decides issues that are of first impression or otherwise important to establishing or clarifying Pennsylvania law. Whitaker also published an article, “Administrative Agency Appeals—How the Organized Bar Fostered Order From Chaos, Where We Are Now and How We Got Here, With a Focus on Agency Deference,” in the July issue of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Quarterly. He is Of Counsel at HMS Legal LLP and is an adjunct professor of law at Widener Commonwealth Law School. He lives in Harrisburg, Pa.

 

1980s

Thomas Dale Oliver ’84 Bus and his farm, Normandy Horse Farms, were highlighted in the June 2025 issue of Upper Makefield Magazine. The farm is dedicated to D-Day veterans and World War II veterans. It has been visited by many World War II veterans including David Pergrin ’40 Eng (291st Combat Engineers) and his wife, Peg. The farm was used by Colonial troops before the Christmas crossing to attack the Hessian troops in Trenton, N.J. It also is home to a 500-year-old Sycamore tree. Oliver lives in Washington Crossing, Pa.

Stephen F. Gambescia ’85 MEd Edu published A Study Guide for Public Policymaking in the United States. He is Professor of Health Services Administration and director of a Doctor of Health Science program at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He lives in Havertown, Pa.

Lloyd Fletcher ’86 Eng was appointed associate professor in management at the University of Bristol Business School, U.K., and director of graduate studies. He lives in Bristol, U.K.
 
 

1990s

Cindy Stigler Cornell ’90 Bus (ΚΚΓ) joined Vistage Worldwide as a CEO peer group chair, leading local groups of CEOs and supporting personal and professional elevation. She lives in Stratford, Conn.

William F. McQuade ’91 Eng was elected president of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for 2025-2026.  He serves as the global vice president of government affairs and sustainability for the Baltimore Aircoil Company in Jessup, Md. A former member of the Penn State Beaver Alumni Society Board and an inaugural member of the Penn State Mechanical Engineering Society (PSMES), he served as its president from 2013 to 2015 and was involved in the creation of its mentoring program, which eventually became a College of Engineering-wide program. He lives in New Cumberland, Pa.

Jane A. Foor ’92 H&HD, a school counselor in Lewistown, Pa., earned the American School Counselors Association RAMP (Recognized ASCA Model Program) and PA Diamond Award (a statewide award based on career development) for Mifflin County Middle School—the only school in Pennsylvania to earn these designations. She lives in State College.

Angela Linneth Scott ’92 Lib published The Poem I wrote to DR OZ, featuring a letter to the administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. She lives in Hartford, Conn.

Jennifer Eggers ’94 Bus published her second book, Mastering the C-Suite: The Senior Leader’s Playbook to Build a C-Suite Mindset, Command Respect, and Lead an Enterprise. She lives in Macungie, Pa.

Jennifer Watkins ’95 Lib has joined Sappi North America’s Portland, Maine, office as the director of employee relations and human resources. Watkins is responsible for talent acquisition and employee development, performance, and engagement. She was previously employed by Nestlé Waters, General Dynamics – Bath Iron Works, and most recently by Unum, where she served as assistant vice president and managing senior HR business partner. She lives in Auburn, Maine.

Matt Miller ’98 ’03 MEd Edu, principal of Roundtown Elementary School in Pennsylvania’s Central York School District, was named the 2025 Pennsylvania Distinguished Principal of the Year. He was recognized at special award ceremonies by the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the Pennsylvania Principals Association. He lives in York, Pa.

2000s

Adam J. Kruppa ’01 Lib joined Boyertown High School in Boyertown, Pa., as NJROTC senior instructor and head swim coach in late 2024.  Last summer, he won the title of 2025 Age Group State Champion in the Keystone Games (swimming and track & field), the USA Triathlon, and the Pennsylvania State Championship. He lives in Royersford, Pa.

Steve Schwenk ’03 Eng has been promoted to associate principal at architectural firm Quinn Evans. He has more than 20 years of experience in expanding existing buildings and creating new facilities within historical contexts. His projects include the College of Business at Coppin State University, Jones-Hill House at the University of Maryland, and an addition to the Hylton Performing Arts Center for George Mason University. He lives in Baltimore.

Ryan Albright ’08, ’20 MBA Bus has been promoted to chief marketing officer at Herbert, Rowland & Grubic Inc (HRG). In this new role, he will align HRG’s marketing channel with broader strategic business priorities by focusing on five key pillars: strategic positioning, brand awareness, demand generation, sales enablement, and brand loyalty and culture. He lives in Carlisle, Pa.

Bryan Focht ’12 Eng (ΔΣΦ) was promoted to business unit manager over its Maryland practice by professional services firm Dewberry. Focht joined Dewberry in 2012; he has a background in site and civil engineering, primarily for projects across Prince George’s County and is experienced in delivering engineering services for residential subdivisions, commercial properties, and industrial sites. He lives in Laurel, Md.

Andy L. cover of I Am IngridABOUT A DOG: Actress Aria Mia Loberti, a Penn State Ph.D. candidate and star of the Netflix limited series All the Light We Cannot See, published I Am Ingrid: The Adventures of the World’s Greatest Guide Dog. The book, recounted from the perspective of Loberti’s own guide dog, teaches children how guide dogs and humans work together.
