Our January/February 2010 issue mentioned a book called Hooked on Autographs by Joe Galiardi. Here’s what we wrote back then:
“Joe Galiardi ’57 Bus recently released Hooked on Autographs, a compilation of anecdotes and photos from Galiardi’s decades collecting autographed golf balls. Among his collection are dimpled white orbs signed by nearly 100 pro golfers and seven U.S. presidents. (Galiardi will donate some proceeds to the Walter Reed Society benefiting wounded soldiers.)”
Galiardi recently got in contact with us and said that he set the Guinness World Record for the largest autographed golf ball collection. He has 209 balls autographed by different golfers, so he’s added a few ever since he was officially recognized in March of 2015.
In total, Galiardi has 435 signed golf balls, which include eight presidents and four Penn Staters: John Cappelletti ’74, Franco Harris ’72, Lenny Moore ’56, and Joe Paterno.
