Moody Boost: Some positive financial news for Penn State: the university’s debt rating has been revised from “stable” to “positive,” which according to Moody’s Investor Services, “reflects Penn State’s significant liquidity, limited financial leverage, and rapid response to governance, management and financial challenges over the last year.” Moody’s also attributed the boost to successful fundraising and Penn State’s dominance as a top research university.
In the Zone: Today, Onward State features a cool behind-the-scenes look at what goes into creating the S-Zone in Beaver Stadium for each home football game— a tradition that started 15 years ago. A fun piece of S-Zone history: Before participants received free t-shirts, Lion Ambassadors were responsible for distributing, collecting, and then washing the same pinny-style tank tops.
The Great Wallz: Former Nittany Lions turned rapper Mike Wallz’s latest album The Layover drops next Monday (see, I know the lingo), and Onward State‘s Zack Rutstein chatted with the artist (otherwise known as Michael Wallace ’12 Com) about his career and life since graduation. And for what it’s worth, the explanation behind his answer to OS‘s standard dinosaur question (Wallz would be one of the longneck dinos from The Land Before Time) is pretty fantastic: “They were dope, you know what I’m saying? Littlefoot was a G, you know? Like, he rolled with his whole crew. He had his little girlfriend longneck. And like the mom and dad longnecks, they were super supportive and protecting, making sure he stayed out of trouble. Yeah man, I would be a longneck.”
Funny Stuff: Did you happen to catch last night’s Conan? Adam Yenser ’05 Com/Lib, a comedian and Emmy-winning writer for The Ellen Degeneres Show, got big laughs during his stand-up set at the end of the show. Check out the clip here — but beware: you may never look at Applebee’s menu the same way again.
