Penn State musical theatre grad Caroline Bowman ’10 is having some terrific early-career success: She’s just been named to the lead role of Eva Perón in the upcoming national tour of Evita, the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
Evita, based on the life of the second wife of Argentinian president Juan Perón, started as a musical album, then debuted as a stage production in London in 1978 and on Broadway in 1979. The Broadway version won seven Tony awards, and a 2012 Broadway revival earned three Tony nominations. The new national tour, which is based on the 2012 revival, will have a 26-city run starting Sept. 8 and continuing through next June.
Most recently, Bowman was a member of the ensemble for the Tony Award-winning musical Kinky Boots. She left that cast just a few days ago to join Evita. Can’t wait to hear her sing “Don’t Cry for me Argentina.”
