Because Any Time is a Good Time for a Puppy Photo

When an Affenpinscher named Banana Joe won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Monday night, I thought, “Affenpinscher. Why does that dog breed ring a bell?”

This morning came the answer. Carrie Egnosak ’03, an Alumni Council member who’s an undergraduate adviser at Penn State Erie, posted a note on her Facebook page: “Ernie, our Penn State Behrend therapy dog, made the national news last night!” That’s when it all came back to me: Ernie the Therapy Dog is an Affenpinscher. And we profiled Ernie in the magazine two years ago. I dug up the story we did and laughed out loud; I had forgotten how cute that photo was:

Anyway, Ernie is still working at Behrend, and he did indeed get a brief mention on the NBC Nightly News last evening; you can watch that clip here.
