Blue White Game to Air on ESPN

From September to early January (minus those few weeks in December), Penn Staters are used to seeing a Nittany Lion football game on TV almost every weekend.

Late April? Not so much.

That changes this year with the announcement that ESPN2 will televise the 2010 Blue-White Game. The Lions’ annual spring scrimmage will air live at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 24. It’s not quite a first — a handful of schools, including defending national champion Alabama, have had their spring games televised in recent years — but Penn State is the first Big Ten school to land the spot. And what’s the draw for the sports broadcasting giant? I’m guessing they’re aware that last year’s Blue-White Game drew nearly 77,000 fans, and it doesn’t hurt that this spring could feature a wide-open race to replace outgoing all-Big Ten quarterback Daryll Clark ’08 Com.
