Lady Lions’ Final Four Basketball Team Honored

At halftime of yesterday’s women’s basketball game (a terrific game in which the Lady Lions upset 15th-ranked Pitt, 77-73), Penn State honored the 1999-2000 Lady Lions, the only Penn State team to advance to the NCAA Final Four.

Because I’m the public-address announcer for Penn State women’s basketball games in the Jordan Center, I’m kind of tethered to the scorers’ table during such ceremonies—I can’t exactly move around to get into a good position to take a photo. So I don’t have a shot of the whole team, but I do have the above close-up of some of them: from left, athletic director Tim Curley ’76, ’78g, Helen Darling ’01, Andrea Garner Drummond ’00, and Marissa Graby Hoover ’00.

Note that Garner and Hoover are holding babies. I don’t know whether Helen Darling brought her triplets to town with her, but that would have been fun to see—they’re 7 years old now and would probably have stolen the show, had they come out on the court with her.
