Bobby Bowden Retires, Leaving Joe Alone At The Top

It was never about the record. Both men have said so, but now that Bobby Bowden’s enforced retirement is official, the record for all-time Division I (or FBS, or whatever they’re calling it these days) coaching victories is a non-issue. It’s Joe Paterno’s, for now and for at least the 20 or 30 years it would take for any of the likely challengers to get anywhere close. If any of them ever do.

Among the many columns on the topic today, a piece by Mark Brennan of Fight On State offers some great perspective on the Joe & Bobby angle.
