College Avenue on Thanksgiving Day
November 30, 2009
Years ago I heard someone say that State College is the only town in the world in which a 55-year-old man goes home for the holidays. In case you need proof of that, here’s a photo that one of our freelance photographers, Nick Sloff ’92, took of College Avenue on Thanksgiving Day.
It’s definitely pretty quiet around here on holidays.
You can follow Nick’s photography blog here.

I love scenes like these. While it is nice to have people around most of the time the fact that the area becomes a ghost town every now and again is part of the reason I have remained here since the early 1970s.
And it makes an excellent landscape to operate a scooter or motorcycle in.

Tina:
Were you there in the late 60s when the town closed down over Christmas. You had to search to find a bar, ah, I mean, a restaurant. ;-)
