Alyssa Naeher Shows Me How to Stop a Penalty Kick

We’ve been talking about some (hopefully) fun ways to get more video on our site. With that in mind, this is the first in (hopefully) a series of me embarrassing myself with the help of some of Penn State’s best student athletes. Basically, I’ll try to find out what makes a Nittany Lion standout so good at what they do. Then, I’ll try to do it myself.
First up: Alyssa Naeher is arguably the best goalkeeper in collegiate women’s soccer, and undoubtedly one of the finest in the world. A two-time, first-team All-American, Naeher was between the sticks for the U.S Women’s U20 national team that won last year’s U20 World Cup. She’s athletic, instinctive, and a student of the game. If you follow the women’s game, you might be hearing about her for a long, long time.
Me? I played a little goalie when I was about 10 years old.
Last week at Jeffrey Field, Alyssa and teammate Nikki Watts were nice enough to take time at the end of practice to indulge me.

Thanks to Alyssa for the pointers and impromptu camera work, and to Nikki for giving me at least one ball I could actually save.
Any ideas who I should hit up next? I’ve got a few, but suggestions are welcome.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT!
It’s great to see you shedding light on some of the lesser known athletes and women’s sports.
Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Might I suggest Softball???

This looks like it’s going to be a great series. When do you take on the parallel bars?

[...] In the video below, Penn Stater Magazine’s Ryan Jones lets readers have fun at his expense by watching him try to stop penalty kicks, as instructed by Naeher. The result is embarassing for Ryan, but funny for all of us, just like the Penn Stater planned. [...]
